People come from all across the United States and from countries around the world to work at Agriprocessors and live in Postville. These employees help Agriprocessors succeed and they are a huge asset fro our city. More than that, they are our neighbors. Their children go to school without children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Postville is a small town and in a small town there are very few secrets. If the situation at Agriprocessors that the Forward described were true, we would know.
The members of Postville’s City Council and I see Agriprocessors every day. We’ve toured their plant and found it a modern, clean facility. Their employees are happy, hard working, open and enthusiastic. They are inviting their family members to join them here in Postville, get jobs at Agriprocessors and live out the American Dream.
The broad allegations made by the forward paint a negative and incorrect picture of Postville and mislead the Forward’s readers about our City. Our residents are building new homes. New apartment buildings are going up. Small business are investing and building along our main streets.
Agriprocessors has been a good corporate citizen and has helped fund projects like Postville’s new Early Childhood Education Center and many, many others.
I am not sure which town the Forward visited to write his recent article. The Postville he described is not the one colleagues and constituents live and work in. And the Agriprocessors he described is not the one where our friends and neighbors work.
If the Forward, or any of its readers, would like to see the Real Postville for themselves, please come visit us. You’ll see why so many people are agreeing to make the “Hometown To The World” their hometown too.
